Kaizen Tracker / Product / Savings and Return on Investment

Savings and

return on investment.
Improvements that no one has quantified will never appear in the accounting records. Module M06 links each project to its investment, annual savings, payback period, and a controlling signature—so the results of the improvement program can be justified to both management and auditors.

— /01 — Savings Calculation

Hard and soft savings should be calculated according to a single methodology, not based on who did the calculations.

Savings are calculated based on actual inputs—time saved multiplied by the work center rate, reduction in scrap multiplied by the unit price, energy consumption, materials, and transportation. The rates are defined by the controlling department once and apply to the entire plant, so two identical improvements will never result in a different total.

How much did it cost, when did it pay off, and what are the long-term implications?

For each project, you track investments—materials, technology, outside work, and your team’s hours. Kaizen Tracker uses this data and verified savings to calculate the payback period, ROI, and cumulative benefits over time. Management thus makes decisions based on numbers, not gut feelings, and after a year, they can see if the projections were accurate.

— /03 — Validation by the Controlling Department

A savings is only valid once it has been confirmed by the finance department.

The calculation provided by the improvement proposer is a proposal, not a final result. Before the project is closed, it is approved by the department head and the controlling team—every change to the figures is logged with the author, time, and reason. Thus, only amounts that have been approved by someone are included in the report to management.

— /04 — Savings Portfolio

One number per race, per year, for the entire group.

Verified savings are compiled into a consolidated report—by plant, category, team, and time period. You can see where the program is delivering the most value, which plants are lagging behind, and how much of the annual target has already been realized in the financial statements. Export to XLSX or directly to Power BI and SAP.

— / Why Does It Matter?

The improvement program stands or falls
on the credibility of the numbers.

When everyone calculates savings differently and no one verifies them retrospectively, management stops trusting the numbers—and the budget for improvements is the first to disappear. The M06 module acts as a safeguard against this: one methodology, one signature, one report.
